Sentence
The Sixhundredandeleventh
After Teri left, and
Jasmine returned, again making use of the easement which the tunnel
under the neighbouring cottages provided – deemed essential by the
Service to avoid the occupation of their own, rather nondescript
headquarters from being identified, although Sam was pretty certain
in his own mind that everyone in Darnick probably knew of it's
existence – Sam produced the string which he had already tied by
one end to an empty can (Campbell's Scotch Broth) and he
proceeded to push
the other end into the hole in Karla's soft body;
they waited; and waited; Sam drank two double Laphroaigs while
Jasmine drank Jasmine tea, followed by a vodka and soda; Sam doubted
whether his emolument from the Service would stretch to another
bottle of Laphroaig this week; and waited; "it's four
hours since he took the note, but for all we know a month may have
passed for him, which is why we need to be able to establish that we
are in the same Time Zone as it were," he said, his words
dropping like icicles into Jasmine's heart and she could imagine a
pundit on television discoursing on how the Service was renowned for
wasting it's time on 'wild-goose chases' or 'fishing expeditions
which never brought home a decent trout' and was beginning to think
about switching on the lights when she noticed Sam's hand jerk, and
the length of unwound string begin to disappear into the Teddy Bear;
Sam beamed, jumped to his feet, pulled Jasmine into his embrace and
kissed her with an undisguised fervour; despite her moral code which
had prevented her from fully entering the undercover identities she
had assumed for the Service, as a Pole Dancer and street prostitute,
while reporting on the comings and goings in the Burke and Hare,
Jasmine was so excited by the prospect of making direct contact with
Tavish through the Moth-hole, the possibility of hearing his voice
and perhaps those of Bernie and Tammy, and little Lolly, that she
returned Sam's kisses with as much fervour, not caring where this
sudden display of affection and sexual desire might lead!
