Sentence
The Fourhundredandfirst
And as he was being
taken to The Hold by a sinuous route down, down and deeper down into
the bowels of the Mountain, Sir Clement Dane dillied and dallied as
much as possible, without, however, causing his escort to become
fractious, because he knew, only too well, what a fractious soldier
could do with his gun, but he took as many opportunities as he could,
to trip, to stumble, to fall, and it was not all play acting for, as
the drop from the entrance Cavern to their present location in the
three-dimensional map which the Professor of Mediaeval Architecture
was constructing in his head,
became greater, so the air seemed to
become thicker, denser, more inspissated and lacking in the essential
components of Oxygen as the Nitrogen levels increased with every
exhalation, and all the tea in China would have been unable to
prevent it, and when they reached their destination, where the heat
made everyone sweat, he knew that he would be able to retrace his
steps with his eyes shut, relying solely on his memory and the
changing atmosphere as he went!
