As they looked up at the Entrance Gateway, one of the Caddies whistledm and even Daphne, who had first been here many, many, far to many years ago and hadn't seen it for about thirty years, now saw it afresh through the girls' eyes - "Yes," she said, "it's quite magnificent and very imposing, a display of power and intended to put awe into the minds of attacker. It was beseiged quite a few times, perhaps most notably by Oliver Cromwell, in 1650 - though the English Civil War isn't me period - far too recent!"
